Today, the University of Texas is investigating two incidents of alcohol poisoning after sorority pledging events. Around three in the morning, both students were found in their rooms unconscious with no response. One of the young women was also foaming at the mouth.

KVUE quoted a student saying, "When freshmen get here, they kind of go a little crazy and you often times find people passed out or stumbling drunk,” said Michelle White, a U.T. senior.

The University of Texas has tried to bring awareness to the dangers of alcohol and drugs by requiring incoming freshmen and transfer students to take an Alcohol and Drug Awareness program. This is something that colleges and universities around the country should require their students to take before beginning class.  Even though the tragedies still occurred, at least the university is trying to do something to prevent them.

Both students were lucky that their fellow peers called for medical assistance, and they were able to be saved. Usually, people put the victim to sleep thinking that he or she will be fine in the morning.

Alcohol poisoning is a growing threat, especially with school starting soon. Please be aware that binge drinking is not safe, even if it is perceived as being the "cool" thing to do amongst your friends. Your life is more important, so think about that before trying to impress anyone else.
